About the city

There are three places of tourist interest in the region: Palestine; Israel and Jordan. In Israel we can find four main sites: 1) the natural reserve of Ein Gedi that is located on the shores of the Dead Sea, being one of the most important spas. In addition there are archaeological remains of which it is believed that they have an antiquity of more than 5000 years; 2) the Ein Gedi Spa that has natural sulfur pools with healing properties. It also has a freshwater pool; 3) Ein Bokek, the hotel and spa area of ​​the Dead Sea coast, the beaches have high salinity; Y, 4) Masada, which is an archaeological site of Masada, is one of the most visited places in Israel, a very important site for the Jewish people and has been declared a National Park. As for Jordan, nine international franchises have opened hotels next to the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center, along with apartments on the east coast of the Dead Sea. Since November 2015, the panoramic path of the Dead Sea has been included along with 40 archaeological sites in Jordan. In Palestine the main point of interest are the Qumran Caves; which is the site where the Dead Sea manuscripts were discovered, is located a few kilometers south of Jericho in the middle of a rocky area of ​​the Judean desert.

Mujib Biosphere Reserve Hiking Trails

day 0 - Water Trails Siq Trail - (2-3 hours) self-guided

At 410 meters below sea level, the Mujib Biosphere Reserve is the lowest nature reserve on Earth. Its rugged and spectacular mountains border the Dead Sea coast and are dissected by several river-filled canyons that offer the best river and adventure hikes in Jordan. The breathtaking scenery and the challenge of negotiating Mujib’s fast-flowing rivers make the Reserve one of Jordan’s most popular natural attractions.


Group Capacity:

1- Min. 1 persons – max. 100 persons for Water Trails

2- Min. 6 persons – max. 25 persons for Mountain Trail


Notes:

1- Hiking trails availability is based on guides’ availability and suitable weather conditions.

2- This is a smoke & pet free area.

3- We discourage drinking alcohol in the reserve for cultural reasons.

4- Ibex guided trail start at 8:00 am.

5- Siq trail is a self-guided trail and there is no need to book in advance.

6- Siq trail is typically open from 1st of April until 31st of October depending on suitable weather conditions.

7- Every visitor must have his/her valid passport or ID card on site.

8- All bookings, must be made minimum 48 hours prior to the booking date, and are subject to availability.

Dana Biosphere Reserve Hiking Trails

day 1 - Caves Trail - Up to 2 hours

Dana Biosphere Reserve begs to be explored on foot. It’s only by getting out into the thick of it that you feel the special beauty of the terrain and invite chance encounters with Dana’s diverse wildlife.

1- Hiking trails availability is based on guides’ availability and suitable weather conditions.

4- All participants in Wadi Ghweir and Wadi Al Dathneh trails must be at least 18 years old.

1) Campsite Trail

(March 15 – October 31), guided or self-guided

Grade: Easy I Distance: 1.5 km I Time: 1 hour I Starting Time: 08:00 am – 03:00 pm I Group Size: 6 - 20 people

Description: This circular walk around the Rummana campsite is a great place to see birds, especially during migration seasons. The scenic viewpoints along the trail offer picturesque views of the Dana Mountains.


2) The Cave Trail

(March 15 – October 31), guided or self-guided

Grade: Easy to moderate I Distance: 1.5 km I Time: 1.5 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 am – 03:00 pm I Group Size: 6 - 20 people I Requirements: No fear of heights

Description: Starting at the Rummana campsite, this trail passes by the unusual sandstone formations of Shaq al Kalb (Wadi of the Dog) to a group of small caves, believed to have been a religious retreat or hermitage.


3) Rummana Mountain Trail

(March 15 – October 31), guided or self-guided

Grade: Moderate I Distance: 2.5 km I Time: 2 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. – 03:00 p.m. from the Rummana Campsite I Group Size: 6 - 20 people

Description: This circular trail starts from the campsite and ascends to the top of Rummana Mountain, where the views of Wadi Araba are breathtaking. Highlights on the trail include magnificent sandstone and limestone formations, birds of prey, and beautiful views of the nature reserve.


4) White Dome Trail

(March 15 – October 31, except during Ramadan), guided only

Grade: Moderate I Distance: 8 km I Time: 3 - 4 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. from either the Rummana Campsite or the Dana Guesthouse I Group Size: 6 - 20 people

Description: This trail contours the huge escarpments of Wadi Dana between the Rummana campsite and Dana Village. Passing through the terraced gardens of the village, the trail offers breathtaking views of the canyon-like Wadi. If desired, the trail can be done in reverse, from Dana Guesthouse to the Rummana campsite.


5) Dana Village Tour

(Year-round), guided or self-guided

Grade: Easy I Distance: 2 km I Time: 1-1.5 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. – 03:00 p.m. from the Dana Guesthouse I Group Size: 6 - 20 people

Description: Starting from the Dana Guesthouse, this trail winds above Dana Village and through the terraced gardens and local craft workshops. Visitors can meet the local residents, see original Ottoman architecture, and learn more about Dana's rich history.


6) Nawatef Trail

(Year-round, except during Ramadan), guided only

Grade: Easy to moderate I Distance: 2 km I Time: 2 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. – 03:00 p.m. from the Dana Guesthouse I Group Size: 6 - 20 people I Requirements: Transportation from Dana Guesthouse to the starting/ending point in Qadissiya; reasonable level of fitness; no fear of heights.

Description: This circular trail begins from the Al-Barrah area and takes you to beautiful mountains, springs and ancient ruins in the Nawatef Area.


7) Shaq al Reesh Trail

(Year-round, except during Ramadan), guided only

Grade: Moderate to difficult I Distance: 3 km I Time: 2 - 3 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. I Group Size: 6 - 20 people I Requirements: Transportation to and from al-Barra area; no fear of heights

Description: This circular trail traverses from Al-Barrah, through a breathtaking Siq, and to Shaq al Reesh


8) Wadi Dana Trail

(Year-round), guided or self-guided

Grade: Intermediate I Distance: 14 km I Time: 5 - 7 hours I Starting Time: 08:00 a.m. from Dana Guesthouse I Group Size: 10 - 20 people

Description: Start from the Dana Guesthouse at 1200m above sea level and adventure down through the beautiful Dana Biosphere Reserve to Feynan at 325 m. Cross paths and exchange warm greetings with local Bedouin tending their goats or stop to rest and enjoy sweet tea. Experience the four different bio-geological zones of Dana and keep an eye out for the many rare forms of flora and fauna to be found here such as the Nubian ibex. For those looking for a steeper challenge, this hike can be made in reverse, uphill from Feynan to the Dana Guesthouse. Local drivers can transport your luggage to the lodge or the Guesthouse. There is an additional charge for transfers.


9) Wadi Dathneh Trail

(Not available in winter and during Ramadan), guided only

Grade: Difficult I Distance: 19 km I Time: 8 - 10 hours I Starting Time: 07:00 a.m. I Group Size: 10 - 20 people I Requirements: Transportation to and from the Nawatef area; high level of fitness; no fear of heights

Description: Perfect for adventure lovers who have no fear of heights, this trail descends through Wadi Dathneh, past an oasis, and through Wadi al Hamra to the Feynan area.


10) Wadi Ghwair Trail

(Not available in winter and during Ramadan), guided only

Grade: Difficult I Distance: 18 km I Time: 7 - 8 hours I Starting Time: 7:00 a.m. I Group Size: 10 - 20 people I Requirements: Transportation to and from Al Mansoura near Shoubak area; no fear of heights

Description: Continue along the gravel riverbed of the Wadi, alongside a flowing stream, to the entrance to Wadi Ghweir. Very similar to the famous Siq in Petra, the trail leads through magnificent sceneries of different stone formations and many unique plants and trees on both sides of the river. The scenery is so breathtaking it has been known to cause visitors to forget about everything else -- including how long they have been hiking! After 3.5 hours, you will have tea and you can rest and learn more about the area from your guide. From there, continue to the Byzantine archaeology at Khirbet Feynan until you reach your final destination at Feynan Eco lodge.


*This trail is closed in the case of rainfall in the surrounding mountains, due to the possibility of flash floods.
